Cinema offers a unique opportunity to introduce The Chosen to a wider audience, beyond regular churchgoers. A theatrical release creates a shared experience; depending on distribution agreements, the work can later reach audiences on television and streaming platforms. In French-speaking Switzerland, a collective is working to bring Christian-inspired films and series to cinemas and the media.
A growing impact in French-speaking Switzerland
Since 2020, local initiatives have brought audiences series such as Les 7 Églises de l’Apocalypse and Fragrance of Faith, alongside documentaries including Sacerdoce and Dignity. These screenings have led to meaningful encounters and lively discussions with audiences.
Nine towns have already hosted screenings of this kind: Vevey, Martigny, Aigle, Orbe, Sainte-Croix, Morges, Neuchâtel, Bulle and La Chaux-de-Fonds. In Vevey, Cinérive has screened three seasons of The Chosen. These experiences show what can happen when churches, cultural partners and the media work together to reach an audience.
Preparing for two major cinema releases
In 2027, The Chosen: Crucifixion will depict the final hours of Jesus, continuing the story of season 6. A theatrical release is planned for spring, during Lent. The provisional Swiss schedule is 12 March 2027 in French-speaking Switzerland and 11 March 2027 in German-speaking Switzerland; these dates have yet to be confirmed.
At Easter 2028, The Chosen: Resurrection will open the next chapter, focusing on the Resurrection and the Ascension. These two releases offer rare opportunities to bring communities together, welcome new audiences and share a message of hope in cinemas.
Preparations begin with The Chosen Tour on 13 November 2026 at Beaulieu Lausanne. The evening will bring together up to 600 participants, including ambassadors and church leaders, to prepare for the 2027 release and coordinate activities in Switzerland.
Giving these films the visibility they deserve
Reaching cinema audiences takes more than a film: it calls for social media campaigns, posters, flyers, church networks and media coverage. A promotional budget helps turn interest into personal invitations and ticket sales.
Every partner can help spread the word about these screenings. Churches, ambassadors, media organisations and financial supporters can all play a part in bringing The Chosen to Swiss cinema audiences. These releases represent a landmark cultural opportunity for our country.
