The Chosen in cinemas across French-speaking Switzerland

Organised by Régénération in partnership with Cinérive, a series of screenings is bringing all eight episodes of the first season of The Chosen to Vevey, Aigle and Orbe. Two episodes are being shown each evening, with screenings running until April 2022.

Created by Dallas Jenkins in 2017, the American series uses the scope of episodic storytelling to explore Gospel passages that have rarely, if ever, been portrayed on screen. Initially unable to finance the project, Jenkins turned to crowdfunding. By early 2019, the campaign had raised several million dollars, making it the most successful crowdfunding campaign for a television series at that time.

The series has been watched by more than 350 million people worldwide, towards a target of one billion views. French-speaking Switzerland appears to be the only region where the whole first season has been shown in cinemas. It is a powerful example of cooperation across Christian denominations, encouraging audiences to explore or rediscover biblical texts through a fresh and accessible telling.
